Typical Aussie Barbie 06/06/2010
The Aussie Barbie is Australia’s slang for the Australian Barbeque - Australia’s most famous culinary experience. Almost every household in Australia owns a BBQ and if you don't you're not a true-blue, dinky-di Aussie. The Aussie Barbie is symbolically representative of Australian’s relaxed, casual culture and our love of the outdoors. It’s a great social event, with snags (sausages), chops, steak and fried onions smoking on the grill and an abundance of salad, cold beer and good conversation. Although we barbeque all year round BBQ’s are synonymous with sporting events. We’re crazy about – footy (Australian Football Rules), cricket, tennis and rugby. Firing up the barbeque, standing amidst the smoke, turning the chops and snags with a beer in one hand has traditionally been the domain of the male - Until now. Bring on the Barbie Babes! Beer is also considered to be at the very top of the barbecue food pyramid since it doesn't take time to cook or use of utensils. The can of beer and the two pronged barbie fork form a good pairing.
